UGM Press Comparative Study : Towards Innovation

UGM Press Editorial team conducted a series of comparative studies to four publishers in the Jakarta, Bogor and Bandung regions. On the first day, Thursday (April 4, 2019), the visit was conducted at the Polimedia Publisher Jakarta, 09.00 to 12.00. On this occasion, Polimedia gave an open speech, led by the Director of Polimedia, Dr. Purnomo Ananto. He greatly appreciated the arrival of the UGM Press team, led by UGM Managers Press, Dr. I Wayan Mustika. In this event, UGM Press was invited to tour around to see directly the process of editorial work to activities at Polimedia printing.

“With the visit of UGM Press friends, we thank you, and we hope that in the future we can continue to communicate, not only in terms of friendship but also we can work together in many ways,” said Dr. Purnomo.

In this activity, the UGM Press team was very enthusiastic and active in asking to add insight. “This activity is indeed very important because it can increase our knowledge, so as not to be monotonous and not to miss up to date information about the world of publishing,” explained Dr. Wayan.

On the second occasion, still on Thursday, the UGM Press team came to IPB Press in Bogor, between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. At IPB Press, UGM Press was also warmly welcomed and invited to tour around the publishing process. Led by Dr. Sambas, Director of IPB Press, UGM Press team was met directly with the editorial staff of IPB Press.

“Of course we are very happy to be visited by UGM Press. We hope that our hospitality will not be cut off until here. “One day friends from IPB Press can also visit UGM Press to exchange experiences and knowledge,” said Dr. Sambas.

On the following day, Friday (April 5, 2019), UGM Press visited Mizan Wacana Publisher in Bandung. The visit takes place from 08.30 to 11.00. Welcomed by CEO of Mizan Wacana, Ahmad Baiquni, the visit was full of questions and answers, but relaxed. Pak Baiquni explicitly explained the world of book publishing, printing, marketing, and distribution, from upstream to downstream. In addition, the UGM Press team was also invited to visit the Mizan Book Store book bazaar. Here there are various genres of books at affordable prices.

After Mizan, the Editor of UGM Press continued his visit to the last place, namely ITB Press. Visits begin at 13.30 until 15.30. Here UGM Press was welcomed by Drs. Budi Isdianto, M.Sn. as Director of ITB Press and introduced to the publishing staff.

“It was nice that UGM Press’s friends would like to come all the way to ITB Press. We hope that this activity is not merely a visit, but will continue to be fully beneficial for both parties, “said Drs. Budi.

The UGM Press team was invited to tour the process of editing, layout, design, and printing the book. ITB Press staff are also very friendly and openly explain the publishing and printing activities at ITB Press.

Before the comparative study took place, the Head of UGM Publishing and Publishing Agency (BPP), Dr. Widodo, advised that it was proper for UGM Press as a BPP child to have a special time visiting other publishers’ friends, to exchange knowledge and add insight. Not only that, but the human resources at BPP UGM Press are also entitled to participate in training activities in their respective fields in order to develop skills to be able to innovate according to the times.
