UGM Rector Opens BioMIC 2019’s International Conference

BioMIC was once again held by the UGM Publisher and Publication Agency (BPP) for the second time on 12-13 September 2019 at Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta. BioMIC is a series of UGM Annual Scientific Conference (UASC) that provide an ideal academic platform for researchers to present the results of research in the fields of biotechnology, bioinformatics, and biomedical engineering. The implementation of BioMIC in 2019 is also one of a series of 14th Lustrum celebrations initiated by BPP UGM in addition to the ICST conference, which was held in July 2019.

Since it was first held in 2018, BioMIC has been able to attract the interest of researchers from both domestic and foreign countries to present their research findings. It can be seen from the development of the implementation of BioMIC, which was held again by increasing the quantity and quality of both the number of participants, the speakers who were presented, and the publication of the outcome of the conference. With this, BioMIC has strengthened itself to become a conference increasingly sought after by researchers in the fields of biotechnology, bioinformatics, and biomedical engineering.

In the second year of its implementation, BioMIC presented experts from various countries, such as Prof. Yasubumi Sakakibara (Keio University, Japan), Prof. Hirohiko Okamura (Okayama University, Japan), Prof. James Goh (National University of Singapore, Singapore), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jose Guiterrez-Marcos (The University of Warwick, England), Univ.Prof. Dietmar Haltrich, Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. (University of Natural Resources and Life Science, Austria), Assoc. Prof. Takayuki Tohge, Ph.D. (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan), Prof. Shun Hirota (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Japan), Prof. Dr. Sunarti, M.Kes. (Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia), etc.

With each implementation, the number of BioMIC participants continues to increase. In 2019, 108 participants presented their papers with a total of 162 manuscripts and five non-presenter participants. The scope of origin of the conference participants was even broader. This year, registrants for BioMIC 2019 activities come from Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and France. BioMIC consists of six symposiums, namely Bioinformatics and Biological Data Mining (10 papers), Biomedical Engineering and Technology (14 papers), Biomedical Sciences (17 papers), Biomolecular and Biotechnology (33 papers), Drug Development and Nutraceutical (20 papers) and Public Health (14 papers). The output of this year’s conference will be published in indexed journals and proceedings that have collaborated with BioMIC 2019, namely IEEE Conference Proceeding, Indonesian Journal of Pharmacy, Traditional Medicine Journal, Indonesian Journal of Cancer Chemoprevention, Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology, Malaysian Journal of Biotechnology Medicine & Health Sciences, and Research Journal of Biotechnology.
