Universitas Gadjah Mada is one of best universities in Indonesia. UGM is ranked 391st in the world, 74th in Asia, and 14th in ASEAN by QS version for 2019. UGM commits to improve by increasing the scientific publications’ quality and quantity. It can be seen from UGM’s scientific publications indexed by Scopus in the last five years. Many efforts have been done to push it to the international level, one of them was organizing the international conferences. Within one year, there are more than 30 international conferences held by UGM.
The increased number of UGM’s international conferences is directly proportional to the number of papers presented by UGM’s academics. One important output from of the international conference is the proceedings which are published globally. Therefore, it is important for the international conference organizers to choose the trusted publishers to publish their conference proceedings since the proceedings publication will help to boost the institution’s reputation. UGM Digital Press is an online media that can be used to publish the international conference proceedings held by UGM. Under the management of Badan Penerbit and Publikasi (BPP) UGM and Direktorat Sistem dan Sumber Daya Informasi (DSSDI) UGM, UGM Digital Press accommodates all fields which categorized into four series, namely: Physical Sciences and Engineering; Life Sciences; Health Sciences; and Social Sciences and Humanities. A lot of benefits can be obtained if authors published their papers in UGM Digital Press. First, the open access paper has a higher visibility level so people can search by online easily and therefore increases the paper citation. UGM Digital Press also gives the easy access to download the paper. Second, the paper will have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and be indexed by Google Scholar and Dimension. Next, UGM Digital Press also has a bookmark feature of the visited papers and download track record through metric articles. For the conference organizer, UGM Digital Press provides facilities such as plagiarism test for the papers that will be published in UGM Digital Proceeding. It will guarantee the quality of the conference papers. In addition, the paper will go through the editorial stage with international scientific publication standards. UGM Digital Press also displays a collection of digital books published by UGM Press which can be purchased online directly. The digital books at UGM Digital Press will increase the dissemination of the UGM’s academics research result to the public. UGM Digital Press is designed as a system to ease the public to access the development of knowledge from UGM’s academics research result. On Wednesday 28 November 2018 at the UGM Senate Hall, BPP UGM officially launched UGM Digital Press. Deputy Chancellor for Planning, Finance and Information Systems (WR PKSI), Supriyadi, M.Sc., Ph.D., CMA., CA., Ak., attended the launch of UGM Digital Press. In his remarks, he expressed his great hope at UGM Digital Press in boosting UGM’s reputation in publication. Accompanied by the Head of BPP UGM and UGM Research Director, WR PKSI officially launched UGM Digital Press so that it can be accessed and used by UGM academicians. The Head of BPP UGM, Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D., said in his remarks that the existence of UGM Digital Press is expected to improve the quality and quantity of scientific publications at UGM and have an impact on improving the performance of research activities and community service. In line with the university’s strategic plan designed until 2022 delivered by Supriyadi, M.Sc., Ph.D., CMA., CA., Ak., UGM is targeted to be ranked in the top 250 in the world version of the QS Rankings. In the six aspects of the assessment indicators used in determining rankings by QS, one of the indicators that need to be concerned is UGM’s academic reputation. This is important to enhance the UGM’s reputation through the scientific publications. In order to support this effort, the development of an integrated database system is one of the programs that continue to be managed. The presence of UGM Digital Press is seen as a good step in starting the integration effort, especially in supporting the publication improvement program at UGM. The launch of UGM Digital Press was symbolized by the screening of UGM Digital Press’s profile video by WR PKSI UGM. The launch of UGM Digital Press was continued with a series of International Seminar Organizing Workshops with Indexed Proceedings in Reputable Databases held in the Multimedia Room I, Prisma 2018 Enumerator Workshop held in the Multimedia Room II, and AJSTD Journal Publishing Workshop & Layout Training using LaTex held at BPP UGM Meeting Room. This series of events are expected to work together in the utilization of UGM Digital Press through the plan of conference organization by each unit at UGM and at the same time become a routine meeting for Prisma enumerators and the UGM Journal Acceleration Team.
