Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M. Eng., D. Eng., as UGM Rector was present at the opening of the ICST (International Conference on Science and Technology) event on Tuesday (7/30/2019). In his remarks, the Chancellor of UGM said that ICST carries a significant role in bringing up research that has an impact on society, “As we know, people will not progress faster without accelerating in the fields of science and technology”.
ICST was once again held by the UGM Publisher and Publication Agency (BPP) for the fifth time on July 30-31 2019 at the Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta. ICST is a series of UASC (UGM Annual Scientific Conference) scientific conferences which provide an ideal academic platform for researchers to present the results of scientific and technological research. The holding of ICST in 2019 is also one of a series of UGM 14th Lustrum celebrations in addition to the BioMIC conference which will be held on September 12-13, 2019 as a form of UGM’s commitment in the field of research.

Since it was first held in 2015, ICST has been able to attract researchers from both domestic and foreign countries to present their research findings. This can be seen from the development of the ICST implementation which is routinely held every year by increasing the quantity and quality of both the number of participants, the speakers present, and the output of the conference outcomes. With this, ICST has increasingly strengthened itself to become a conference that has no doubt about its credibility.
In its fifth year of implementation, ICST presented experts in the fields of science and technology from various countries, such as Prof. Franck Lavigne (Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Prof. Johan Debayle (Mines-Telecom Institute) from France, Prof. Kang-Hyun Jo (University of Ulsan) from Korea, Prof. Rohana Adnan from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Prof. Satoshi Muraki (Kyushu University) from Japan as the keynote speaker. With each implementation, the number of ICST participants continued to increase. In 2019, there will be 319 participants who will present their papers and 22 non-presenter participants. The scope of origin of the conference participants was even broader. This year, registrants for the ICST 2019 activities come from 17 countries, including Australia, China, Egypt, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Syria, Taiwan, and the United States.
The ICST 2019 conference program consists of seven symposiums, namely 1) the Computer and Information Technology symposium; 2) Electronics, Communication, Control, and Instrumentation symposium; 3) Environmental and Earth Science symposium; 4) Life Sciences, Materials, and Applied Chemistry symposium; 5) Mechanical and Industrial Engineering symposium; 6) Power and Energy symposium; and 7) Remote Sensing and Geomatics symposium. The output from the results of the conference this year will be published in indexed journals and proceedings that have worked with ICST 2019, such as 1) IEEE Conference Proceedings; 2) Materials Science Forum by TransTech Publication; 3) IOP Conference Proceeding; and 4) ASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development.
The results of the four ICST conferences in the previous year were successfully published in various reputable journals and proceedings, including: 142 articles published at the AIP Conference Proceeding; 196 articles in IEEE Conference Proceeding; 1 article in the ASEAN Journal of Chemical Engineering; 1 article in IOP Science; 1 in the Journal of Medicine, Physiology and Biophysics; 1 article in the International Journal of Computer Science & Information Technology; 6 articles in Proceedings of The Pakistan Academy of Science; 3 articles at IJ Geography; 29 articles on TransTech Publication; 18 articles in Applied Mechanics and Materials; 5 articles at UGM Digital Press; 6 articles on IJ Biotech; 7 articles in IJ Chemistry; 35 articles on E3S Web of Conferences; and 40 articles in the Material Science Forum.
The organization of the international conference is expected to encourage an increase in the number of UGM international publications in Scopus indexed journals and proceedings. Not only for UGM, ICST is also able to attract the enthusiasm of researchers from outside UGM so as to enliven the research treasury in the fields of science and technology so that it has an impact on increasing the publication of Indonesian researchers more broadly. Finally, the UGM Chancellor hopes that this conference will be a bridge from various disciplines for various innovations, research results, as well as ideas on current scientific issues. Panut also said that UGM as the initiator was proud to be able to facilitate this interdisciplinary conference. (Kiki)
