Wednesday, February 9, 2022 BPP UGM held a virtual UGM book writing workshop. This workshop is one of the efforts to increase the quantity and quality of books published by the UGM academic community. As stated by the Head of BPP UGM, Prof. Widodo, SP, M.Sc. Ph.D, that books are one of the main types of university performance index achievements. On this occasion, he also conveyed the importance of choosing a publisher who is not predatory so that the quality of the books published can be guaranteed, one of which is by choosing a reputable academic publisher.
UGM Press as a reputable academic publisher provides opportunities for all UGM academics to publish research results, community service, or scientific field experiences at UGM Press through various schemes. By being oriented to the quality of the books published, UGM Press always prioritises the peer review of incoming manuscripts by cooperating with experts who are in accordance with the theme of the manuscript as reviewers. Free of charge, both UGM and non-UGM academics can publish their books at UGM Press.
In this event, two resource persons were presented who are active and productive lecturers in publishing books, namely Prof. Dr. Zullies Ikawati, Apt. from the Faculty of Pharmacy UGM and Harry Freitag Luglio Muhammad, S.Gz., Dietisien, M.Sc., from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing UGM. Both of them are here to provide tips and share experiences regarding theme selection and book writing systematics. The event which was attended by 107 participants from both lecturers and education staff went smoothly. The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the many positive responses and questions addressed to the two resource persons.
In addition to the presentation of the material by the two resource persons, on this occasion there was also a socialization of the book publishing program at UGM Press by the Head of Publishing and Printing Division of BPP UGM, Dr. I Wayan Mustika, M.eng. In the opportunity given, it was explained about the three book publishing schemes that can be chosen, namely the work book grant scheme, the mandate scheme, and the regular scheme. The three schemes have different technicalities in the administrative process and publishing stage without reducing the weight of the quality value of the manuscripts processed. The publishing technique was also explained in detail by the UGM Press editorial team, followed by an explanation of the marketing field by the UGM Press marketing team. Through this event, it is hoped that the publication of books from the UGM academic community, whether published at UGM Press or in other publishers, can increase.
