SD Tumbuh 2 Visit to UGM Press

On Friday (27/5), fifth and sixth-grade students of SD Tumbuh 2 Wirobrajan Yogyakarta visited UGM Press. During the visit, the teachers accompanied the students. UGM Press warmly welcomed this visit. As the Marketing Coordinator representing UGM Press, Dimas introduced UGM Press to the students. “May 17 is the National Book Day. Of course, it must be commemorated so that the youth are more enthusiastic about reading,” Dimas explained.

Then, the program was continued by a talk on how to make books from the Publishing Division, Didi and Siti. Through illustrated slides, students are invited to know how a book is produced, from the beginning of the manuscript, the editing process by the editor, to layout and cover design. The students also actively participated in the game and received prizes from UGM Press.

After that, all students were divided into two groups to observe and learn directly about the book publishing process, starting from editing/language correction, design/layout, as well as the production stage or book printing and binding. Not only that, but some students are also interested in buying books at the UGM Press Bookstore.

According to SD Tumbuh 2, this visit’s purpose is to increase students’ reading interest and to hope that they can understand the world of publishing. “Hopefully, after this visit, the children will know more about the professions in the publishing world and enjoy reading more. Moreover, some of them have a hobby of writing. Reading and seeing firsthand the process of making books will help them in pursuing their hobbies,” said Nurhidayah, one of the teachers of SD Tumbuh 2. The visit ended with prayers, messages, and thanks from Mr. Iwan as the event guide.
