UGM Publication and Publishing Agency (BPP) held a Workshop on the writing and publishing of works and manuscript on 1-2 March 2018 at Multimedia II room, in the Central Building, 3rd Floor of Southern Side. The event was held to facilitate lecturers and researchers at UGM on helping of writing and publishing books by UGM in 2018.
The event was opened by Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D. as Head of BPP UGM, on his speech he said that UGM and the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education performance contract in 2018, UGM was targeted for publication as many as 2200 of which are books of work. In 2017, the target of the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education as much as 1200 and UGM managed to get approximately 1600 publications. Mr. Widodo also added that books of work that are registered with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights will produce copyright. This year’s UGM intellectual property rights are targeted to 220 of which 150 are copyright. This shows if UGM wants to reproduce copyright and book publication, BPP UGM must give support to all UGM society, which one of the support is by doing writing workshop and book publishing work.
Furthermore, the speech and technical explanation of UGM Press was presented by Dr. Ir. I Wayan Mustika, ST., M.Eng. as Head of Printing and Publishing of BPP UGM. Mr. I Wayan conveyed that BPP UGM organizes publication enhancement programs such as international conference presentation assistance, language editing assistance, scientific paper award in international journals, book publishing incentives, book publishing chapter incentives and the latest incentive to publish scientific papers from student final assignment. Especially for the writing of works, BPP UGM will open three batches. Also stated in the speech, that for this year there is a little bit different with previous years where all incentive submission process is should be done through simaster which can facilitate in processing proposal.
The event continued with the material presented is “Being a Good Writer and Bestseller” by prof. Dr. Bambang. At the beginning of the material, Prof. Bambang said that writing should be viewed as a hobby and should be moved from the conscience. He also added that do not make writing just to add credit numbers. In his presentation, he delivered the stages of writing the book followed by tips on the preparation of the timeline, writing the outline, until the stage of draft writing. In addition, plagiarism and writing ethics are also emphasized in the workshop to become the participants’ attention.
After the delivery of the material, the event continued with manuscript workshop session by UGM Press Team. Manuscript workshop sessions are held on the first day and will continue on the second day. Participants can consult directly about technical writing and book publishing at UGM press. The participants seemed enthusiastic in following the workshop manuscript which is visible from the readiness in bringing the draft manuscripts already owned and some are still consulted as an early stage to know how to start writing a book for publication at UGM Press.
