Books of Systemic Mind Patterns to Heal Industry 4.0

Wednesday (05/28/209) The Masters in Technology for Sustainable Development UGM in collaboration with River and Ecology Club of the Department of Civil Engineering of the UGM Vocational School held a book review of System Mindset by Dr- Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono at the Auditorium of the UGM Graduate School. This event was attended and reviewed directly by the author, Dr.-Ing. Ir. Agus Maryono who is a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering SV UGM, and also a lecturer in the Masters in Technology for Sustainable Development UGM, who has written more than seven books that have been published UGM Press. This book review was attended by dozens of students across disciplines and across levels, academics, and the community.

The Book of Mindset System is completed by the author as an answer to the author’s anxiety towards the concept and implementation of the system mindset that is still often forgotten by society. The main problem faced by society today is the mindset that is still limited by the boundaries of sectoral thinking and less appreciative of the systemic integralistic mindset.

This is why systemic thought patterns are important because, in the world of thought, science might be separated. But in real life the sciences are bound together. According to the author, science cannot stand alone. Every element in science is like a human organ that influences each other. That is why as much interdisciplinary science is needed.

Problems that occur in society will be resolved well if systemic thinking is applied in overcoming them. Real problems in society cannot be resolved if they only refer to one scientific discipline. For example, in overcoming the problems of floods, landslides, and droughts we need collaboration in hydraulics, biology, and social engineering so that the resulting solutions can solve problems without other problems arising.

The system mindset is a combination of the thinking world and the living world. Therefore, all components of society are expected to implement systemic thinking, with this the 17 Points of the Sustainable Development Goals can be realized. With this System Mindset Book Review, it is hoped that new awareness will emerge to collaborate and work together in finding solutions to national problems.
