The DIY Provincial Library and Archives Office (DPAD) invites residents of Muntuk Village, Dlingo District, Bantul, to read the book Building Tourism from the Bottom published by UGM Press to develop bamboo craft tourism potential as a distinctive feature and icon of Muntuk Village. In the book review on Building Underwater Tourism held at the Muntuk Village Hall, Dlingo, Bantul, on Thursday (3/21), Destha Titi Raharjana, one of the authors, said that the hospitality of the villagers to visitors was very important in creating visitors’ comfort while staying in the village at least 3 days 2 nights to learn bamboo crafts. “For example, if you visit someone’s house, if the host is not friendly, you better just go home,” said Destha.
“Assistance for tourist villages to be more competitive, focus more on destination management aspects which include: product development, human resources, IT-based marketing development, business plans, and supported by increasing aspects of amenities in tourist villages,” said Destha from UGM Center for Tourism Studies. The village head of Muntuk, Kelik Subagyo, hopes that with this book review, villagers can provide new innovations, especially related to bamboo handicrafts which are the icons of Muntuk Village. “With this book review, we hope that people will be inspired to make innovations in building tourism in their environment. We distribute this book to 150 villagers, “said the Head of the Section for Development of Interest and Reading Culture of DIY DPAD, Aris Widiyanto.
“This book should be read by villagers because it tells the experience of building tourism from below which is documented in writing,” said Head of Bantul Tourism Office, Kwintarto. According to him, this activity can increase people’s desire to read books as an effort to develop tourism. “The book Building Tourism from the Bottom presents as an effort to document fieldwork with the community carried out by researchers at the UGM Tourism Study Center,” said Wayan.
