BPP UGM Holds Workshop on Journal Accreditation and OJS 3 Assistance in 2021

Badan Penerbit dan Publikasi (BPP UGM) held a Workshop on Journal Accreditation and OJS 3 Assistance for journal managers at UGM on Tuesday and Wednesday, 16th-17th February 2021. The workshop, which was held virtually for two days, aims to: 1) meet minimum standards requirements for submitting scientific journal accreditation; 2) knowing the weaknesses of 12 scientific journals that will apply for accreditation; 3) make follow-up improvements before submitting accreditation; 4) optimizing the potential of scientific journals that will apply for accreditation; and 5) knowing the advantages of OJS version 3 which can support the management of electronic scientific journals.

The workshop was conducted by the Head of BPP UGM—Widodo, M.Sc. Ph.D.—who in his speech said that up to now there are 68 UGM journals that have been accredited in SINTA, 8 of them are in SINTA 1 / indexed by Scopus. Through this assistance in preparation for accreditation, UGM expected that in 2021 can add more journals in SINTA, especially journals with global reputation. It is hoped that the increase in UGM journals with global reputation will also increase the number of quality papers produced.

In the first quarter of 2021, 17 UGM journals will be submitted for accreditation through http://arjuna2.ristekbrin.go.id/ with details of 4 new accredited journals and 13 journals that will be re-accredited. To provide maximum accreditation assistance, BPP UGM invited Dr. Purwani Istiana, M.A., Agustina Asih Tri Utami, S.T.P., and Sasmita Gandawanti, S.E. as a workshop speaker on the first day. Guided by the moderator Pradiastuti Purwitorosari, S.S., the discussion, question, and answer program went communicatively. The participants, who are representatives of journal managers at UGM, seemed enthusiastic about participating in the workshop. Not only providing material, the speakers also directly provide criticism and suggestions through direct screening of the readiness of journals that will apply for accreditation or re-accreditation.

On the second day, the workshop material was the basic level Open Journal System (OJS) 3, presenting Andri Putra Kesmawan, M.I.P as a speaker and Winarsih, A.Md. as a moderator.  In the first session of this workshop, the speakers explained the differences and advantages of OJS 3 compared to OJS 2. OJS 3 is different from OJS 2 so that needs to be socialization and mentoring then followed by direct practice for journal managers to make them more familiar. In addition to the appearance of the OJS 3 setup which is longer than the OJS 2, the OJS 3 also has a display that is more compact, easy, and flexible because it is built on the principle of being mobile friendly. The level of data security on OJS 3 is claimed to be safer than OJS 2. [Kiki]
