Regional Library and Archives Service (DPAD) Special Region of Yogyakarta and cooperated with Commission D of Field of People’s Welfare, on Thursday, March 12, 2020 held a book review entitled “Pemberian ASI Eksklusif sebagai Makanan Sempurna untuk Bayi” by Toto Sudargo and Nur Aini Kusmayanti which was published by UGM Press. The purpose of this event is to encourage reading interests of rural community in Yogyakarta. This event was held in Jogja Kejambun Kidul, Sindumartani, Ngemplak, Sleman.

Koeswanto, as the Head at Commission D of Field of People’s Welfare said that book was one of the information literacies. The book review was aimed to encourage people to increase knowledge. The theme was about giving exclusive breastfeeding to babies as perfect meal. The purpose of this event was giving knowledge to women in Sindumartani, Ngemplak, Sleman, about the importance of child development. Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the important solution in solving community nutrition problems, either for now or for the future, “So that people understand how to take care of their children, especially women who have just given birth, exclusive breastfeeding is important so that it can form a quality generation for the Indonesian people”, said Koeswanto.

Nur Aini Kusmayanti as the main speaker and one of the authors explained that giving exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months of baby’s life has proven to increase health rate of the nation. Exclusive breastfeeding can lower mother and baby’s death rate and increase their health rate as well. In addition, it can bring positive impact for the baby’s future.
“This book is not only to reveal the impacts of exclusive breastfeeding, but also put out the problems and obstacles faced by a mother in giving it. This book is aimed to be base in regulation making of giving exclusive breastfeeding”, said Nur Aini.
Widaningsih, as the Head of DP3AKB, Sleman Regency, stated that exclusive breastfeeding was one of the child protection efforts who were given directly by the parents. “Exclusive breastfeeding can establish affection between mother and baby so that the children always wanted the presence of a mother”, said her as UGM alumni.

Vista Ari Rahmawati, from Dinas Kesehatan Sleman stated that giving exclusive breastfeeding was the rights of all Indonesian children which they should get when they were babies. “Rights have to be protected by rules so that the obstacles which have been failing to give exclusive breastfeeding can be controlled”, said Vista.
UGM Press Manager, Dr. I Wayan Mustika, was fully appreciated to this book review event which was held in rural area. “Descrease in infant mortality is another part of the problem of improving the nutritional status of the community. This books helps Indonesian children’s rights related to exclusive breastfeeding that they must get when they are babies, and people especially women to read this book”, said Dr. Wayan. [Adinda]
