Application of open access in scientific journals will improve the quality of scientific communication and maximize the impact of research results that will be a positive influence on the level of legibility and journal citations. Following the lead of Harvard and MIT, which was already fully adopt an open access policy, UGM also began implementing a policy of open access to all published scientific journals.

Journal UGM Acceleration Team members who are also members of the Global Network Creative Commons, Creative Commons attending The Global Summit 2019 (CCGS) as one member of the delegation Creative Commons Indonesia (CCID). Activists and supporters of the Creative Commons attending CCGS movement are held every year. This year, CCGS will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 9-11 May 2019, and will be attended by more than 450 representatives from over 100 countries. The event which carries six themes of the openness movement was held for three days and was divided into 120 sessions in parallel at the Museu do Oriente, Lisbon.
On the third day, Dr. Siti Nurleily Marliana presented the use of Creative Commons in the world of scientific publications in Indonesia, especially in UGM. The presentation explained the process of introduction, training, and challenges in the application of open access to journal articles in UGM that did not face a number of challenges. The interaction between the participants and the presenter ignited debriefing and discussion that can open new horizons for the implementation of open access in the various countries. Through this kind of activity is expected to have a positive impact on the world of scientific publications in Indonesia.
