UGM Publishing and Publication Board (BPP) held a Workshop on Writing Book Works 2019 on April 22, 2019, in Multimedia Room II, South Wing 3 Floor, UGM Central Building. This event was held to provide knowledge about writing books to writers to conform to the writing standards of University Publishers. Head of BPP UGM, Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D. gave a speech while opening the workshop. In his speech, Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D. said that writing a book at a University Publisher required good quality standards. In order to give awards to quality writers, the BPP provides a 2019 Book Works Publishing Grant.
Three speakers were present at the 2019 Book Writing Workshop. They were Prof. Dr. Janianton Damanik, M.Sc. (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Prof. Ir. Wahyudi Budi Sediawan, S.U., Ph.D. (Faculty of Engineering) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Baiquni, M.A. (Faculty of Geography). The three speakers conveyed about strategies and tips for writing good books. Beginning with a statement that writing a book is an important activity carried out in the academic world besides writing a journal. Then proceed with an explanation of the different ways of writing in books and journals. According to the informant, a book writer must fully understand the academic writing model required in book writing, the basic concepts that are to be built, and the structure of the book to be presented. Various strategies in writing the book are then presented in this presentation. One of them is, that in writing a book, the author needs to present a different point of view from the existing writings. Its contents, too, must make the reader take part in the dialogue, invite critical thinking, raise problems, and provide solutions. In addition, as a product of scientific work, writing a good book writing ethics book must be put forward, including that it must be free from elements of plagiarism.
To build a common perception of the prospective book writers, in the workshop also delivered material about the technical explanation of book writing at UGM Press. The presentation was delivered by UGM Manager Press, Dr. I Wayan Mustika, ST., M.Eng. and Coordinator of the UGM book publishing Press Samsul Maarif S.S. In his presentation, Dr. I Wayan Mustika conveyed that UGM Press provides services to publish UGM academic books by giving benefits to the authors, this year in addition to the books published, they will be printed and manually circulated and will be published in the digital version and circulated through UGM Digital Press.
