Universitas Gadjah Mada gave awards to the excellent UGM’s academics and alumni on Thursday, November 15th, 2018 at Grha Saba Pramana. At the Award Night, through Badan Penerbit and Publikasi (BPP) UGM, the university gave awards to six UGM’s academics who are excellent in publication and scientific journal management. Based on the selection process and scoring, six names were selected. The awardees successfully published their paper in a reputable international journal, so they have a positive impact on UGM’s reputation.
Dr. Amelia Maika, S.Sos., MA., M.Sc from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences received the best publication in the social-humanities field through her publication in the American Journal of Epidemiology titled “Associations of Early- and Later-Childhood Poverty with Child Cognitive Function in Indonesia: Effect Decomposition in the Presence of Exposure-Induced Mediators Outcome”. Dr. Widiastuti Setyaningsih, S.T.P., M.Sc. from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology received the best publication in the agriculture field through her publication in the Food Chemistry Journal titled “Multiresponse Optimization of A UPLC Method for the Simultaneous Determination of Tryptophan and 15 Tryptophan-Derived Compounds Using a Box-Behind Design with a Desirability Function”. The best publication in the health and medicine field was given to Dr. Muhammad Bayu Sasongko, M.Epi, Ph.D., Sp.M. from the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, for his article titled “Prevalence of Diabetic Retinopathy and Blindness in Indonesian Adults with Type 2 Diabetes” published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology. The best publication in the field of science was accepted by Moh. Adhib Ulil Absor, M.Sc., Ph. D from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science for his article titled “Defect-Induced Large Spin-Orbit Splitting in Monolayer PtSe2” published in the Physical Review B Journal and in the field of engineering, the best publication award was received by Dr. Ing. Teguh Ariyanto, S.T., M.Eng. from the Faculty of Engineering for his article titled “Controlled Synthesis of Core-Shell Carbide-Derived Carbons Through in Situ Generated Chlorine” published in the Carbon Journal.
On the other hand, Siti Nurleily Marliana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. from the Faculty of Biology, the Managing Editor of the Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology (IJBiotech) received the best journal manager award. Siti Nurleily Marliana, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. has successfully brought IJBiotech to be accepted in Scopus for only 3 months 13 days process starting on June 16, 2018 and re-accredited on July 9, 2018, IJBiotech was indexed in DOAJ on September 16, 2018, while also actively providing indexing companions to journals at UGM to Scopus.
The awards were expected to increase the enthusiasm of UGM’s academics to publish their paper in reputable international journals. In addition, UGM also continues to encourage the management of UGM journals through indexation, accreditation, improving the quality of website display and modernizing article layout. Therefore, the journal managers have an important role in the success of UGM’s journal.
