Education and Training in Book Writing for UGM Professors

As the university which upholds “Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi” values, Universitas Gadjah Mada always develops the human resource’s potency and quality for both educators/lecturers and educational staff.  The various activities are carried out, including writing training for all staff, both educators and non-educators. Recently, education and training in book writing for UGM Professors was held. This event is divided into two series on Monday, October 22, 2018 and October 29, 2018.

The first event was held at the Multimedia Room I of KPTU UGM with the motivational lectures from Prof. Jogiyanto Hartono (FEB UGM) about Writing Good and Productive Books. In his presentation, Prof. Jogiyanto said that the criteria of a good book are one’s own work, able to meet the wishes of the reader, the readable flow of the book, the use of good and right language, able to reach cognitive goals, and able to support learning methods.

“Writing a good book must go through various steps, including writing by paying attention to good language, intertwined sentences, and also the flow must be interesting. After that, the author should go to the cooling stage, where the author has to cool his mind (cooling off) first so that it is clearer and able to see the writing errors he made. Then, go to the editing and revision stage, where the revision process can occur not only once, but several times”, explained Prof. Jogiyanto.

Prof. Jogiyanto’s explanation was received by the trainees and getting a great appreciation, especially the presence of UGM Press representatives who supported this activity, increased the enthusiasm of the professors to write a book. Seeing this interest, the organizers led by Prof. Laksono Trisnantoro, finally provided another time to organize further writing training on Monday, October 29, 2018 at the University Club UGM.

“On the second event, prospective writers will be divided into several groups. Each group was accompanied by editorial staff from UGM Press to assist the preparation of the manuscripts”, said Prof. Laksono. Prospective writers could discuss all matters related to the text, starting from the grammar and writing method, systematic presentation, book size, and also market share.

“We really support this event because we believe that the lecturer’s ideas, especially the UGM Professors have high quality. These ideas can be developed into books as a reference for students and the general public. We are ready to help UGM academics to conduct their knowledge,” continued Dr. I Wayan Mustika as UGM Manager Press.
