Badan Penerbit and Publikasi (BPP) UGM Successfully Organized BioMIC 2018

For the first time, Badan Penerbit and Publikasi UGM organized the International Conference on Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, and Biomedical Engineering (BIOMIC) 2018 in Eastparc Hotel, Yogyakarta on September 19th-20th, 2018. This conference was attended by 96 participants from 8 countries i.e Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Romania, Australia, Pakistan, Austria, and Hongkong. The participants consist of the researcher, lecturer, and practitioner that developing innovation in biomedical, drug and nutraceutical, bio-engineering, biomolecular, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and genetic bioresources.
Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas as the chairperson of BioMIC 2018 explained that in this conference all participants can deliver their research result in the parallel session and listen to the keynote speakers’ presentation in the plenary session. The proposals presented in the conference will be submitted to journals or indexed proceedings such as IEEE, AIP Conference Proceedings, Indonesian Journal of Biotechnology, Indonesian Journal of Pharmacy, and Traditional Medicine Journal.
This event was officially opened by drg. Ika Dewi Ana, M.Kes., Ph.D. (Vice Rector for Research and Community Service), Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of Badan Penerbit and Publikasi UGM), and Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas. Within two days, BPP presented 6 keynote speakers and 8 invited speakers who presented the latest biology issue focused in five symposia namely the Bioinformatics and Biological Data Mining, Biomedical Science and Engineering, Biomolecular and Biotechnology, Drug Development and Nutraceutical, and Genetic Resources and Uses.
Prof. Jun-Ya Kato from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (Japan) opened the plenary session presenting his speech about Drug Development Targeted on Cancer Metabolism. The second speech was presented by Prof. Masahiko Hatano from Chiba University (Japan) with the topic Critical Roles of Enteric Neurons in Intestinal Microbiota and Barrier Function and then continued by the presentation from Dr. Piergiorgio Gentile from Newcastle University (the UK) entitled Honey-Based Layer-By-Layer Assembly for Improving Antibacterial Properties of Electrospun Membranes for Soft Tissue Regeneration. The parallel sessions on the first day of BioMIC 2018 invited Univ. Prof. Dietmar Haltrich, Prof. Montarop Yamabhai, Prof. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada, Prof. Eni Harmayani, Prof. Mitsunori Kirihata, drg. Ferry Sandra, Ph.D., Maarten van Zonneveld, Ph.D. dan Ir. Glenn Pardede, MBA.
On the second day, the committee invited Prof. Vinod Chandran from The Queensland University of Technology (Australia) with the presentation titled On the Role of Bispectral Analysis of Biomedical Signals in the Context of Highly Effective Convolutional Neural Networks and Deep Learning. While in the last plenary session, there was Dr. Pascal Montoro from CIRAD (France) with the presentation titled Transcriptional and Post-transcriptional Regulation of Genes Involved in the Production and Scavenging of Reactive Oxygen Species and Antioxidant Biosynthesis in Hevea Brasiliensis laticifers followed by Prof. Shri Mohan Jain from University of Helsinki (Finlandia) which explained about Conservation and Utilization of Plant Genetic Resources Facing Climatic Stress.
Head of BPP, Widodo, M.Sc., Ph.D., said that through annual conference program held by BPP, interdisciplinary research interests and the excellence of researchers in Indonesia to international publication can be improved. This event was officially closed by the announcement of the best paper award for each symposium.
